Dining For Women Donates $12k To Growth Through Learning!
These are two of the nursing students funded through Dining for Women. From left to right: Trainee nurse Rachael Talidda, Sister Salome Nnambi (GTL Uganda’s coordinator), President Donna Lazorik, Executive Director Alex Marthews, trainee nurse Angella Nakibuule.
Dining for Women is a women’s group founded by Marsha Wallace, an obstetric nurse, in Greenville, SC. Members organize monthly potluck dinners, and bring their checkbooks to give to a charity designated by Dining for Women for that month. This year, GTL board members Jeanne Lynch and Judith Nielsen flew down to South Carolina to address Dining For Women, and we sent the GTL video to the chair of each chapter of Dining for Women. The result was that DFW designated GTL as their recipient charity for July, and in October we received a check for $12,343. This wonderful generosity is funding seven GTL girls in Uganda to attend post-secondary courses in nursing and teaching, becoming qualified professionals in countries that are sorely in need of them. In turn, the education we provide will help them to become empowered and respected figures in their communities.
