Our Office Volunteer, Lauren Gaw

I discovered GTL when I was looking on the Internet for potential organizations that I would like to volunteer with. I have been very interested in girls’ education in Africa since I studied abroad in Eritrea, Africa in 2005. I am fascinated by the diverse cultures in the area, but shocked by the poverty and lack of availability of education. I believe that empowering women especially with education is the key to helping them have a brighter future. As a volunteer, I compile short stories about each student that GTL sponsors. I also enter information about each girl into the main database. It makes me feel like I am discovering their lives and telling their stories, and that by doing that I am helping them and GTL succeed.
